Danesha Whitley
Danesha Whitley is a dedicated public health professional and entrepreneur based in North Las Vegas, Nevada. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she cultivated a strong foundation in community health, public policy, and preventive care. During her academic career, she also gained hands-on experience through her internship at Sunrise Hospital, building skills in healthcare operations and patient engagement. Her early career included roles in customer service and sales, which strengthened her communication, team leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Deeply motivated by her personal experiences growing up near the poverty line, Danesha co-founded Better Days Housing LLC with her mother and sister. The organization provides independent, home-style shared living for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in the Las Vegas area. Her approach emphasizes trauma-informed care, mental health support, and access to medical services, creating a nurturing environment that encourages residents to regain stability and self-sufficiency. She prioritizes building a sense of community and family within the homes, helping residents not only survive but thrive.
Beyond her entrepreneurial work, Danesha remains actively engaged in volunteering and mentorship initiatives. She has been a long-time volunteer at Grace Point Church, supporting poverty alleviation and community outreach efforts, and has participated in projects like The Paint Out Project, which uses creative arts to educate youth about mental health. Her professional philosophy centers on compassion, respect, and service, guiding both her public health practice and her work to make a tangible difference in the lives of those she serves.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values my mother instilled in me—growing up, I watched her care for those in need, and that sense of compassion became the foundation of how I approach my work. While my education provided knowledge, it was her example and the guidance of mentors like Gerard Marshall, head of Infection Prevention at Sunrise Hospital, that gave me confidence to pursue my ideas and make an impact. Staying grounded in why I do this work—understanding how quickly circumstances can change for our clients—keeps me motivated and committed to making a difference every day.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to focus on making a positive impact, even when it’s difficult to see the good in humanity. No matter the challenges, we each have the ability to do our part to make a meaningful difference.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to know your “why.” Careers in service can be challenging at times, so staying connected to your purpose will help you stay motivated and resilient through the tough moments.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in our field is securing consistent funding, as programs for people experiencing homelessness are often seen as unpredictable. Despite this, we make the most of our resources to provide homes and critical support, including mental health services. The opportunity lies in expanding our reach, building more homes, and eventually establishing a nonprofit to increase community support and help more people transition toward stability and a better future.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are faith, compassion, respect, and humanity. God comes first in every aspect of my life, and I strive to live by the principle of loving others as I would want to be loved. I prioritize family, accountability, and personal growth, teaching and modeling responsibility while embracing my own imperfections. Outside of work, I enjoy painting, spending time with my children, karaoke, and trips to the beach—simple, meaningful activities that keep me grounded and connected to the people I love.
