Dania Izquierdo

Dania Izquierdo is an undergraduate student at Barnard College entering her sophomore year. She aspires to become a criminal defense lawyer, motivated by personal experiences with violence in her Bronx community and a desire to create change at both individual and systemic levels. Dania is interning at the Bronx Defenders this summer through an undergrad scholar grant and will serve as a summer student leader for Access Barnard, welcoming incoming freshmen. She is actively involved in the Columbia University Caribbean Student Association, Columbia's Criminal Justice Coalition, and the Hispanic Pre-Law Society. Dania attributes her success to the supportive village of family, friends, and community who motivate her daily. She enjoys volunteering with nonprofits in the Bronx, including at food pantries and writing letters to prisoners.
