Branch holds an associate's degree in early childhood education from a community college in New York, a bachelor's degree in English literature from Stony Brook, and a master's degree in curriculum instruction from Penn State. Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danielle

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Choose teaching if it's your passion. Go straight into ESL or Spanish. Don't let fear hold you back like I did with flying; take the shot and go after what you want even if the answer comes later in life.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Curriculum like Amplify is not engaging or representative for minority/low-income students in kindergarten; too scripted and not age-appropriate. Need to trust experienced teachers' knowledge over rigid scripts.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness is most important because it's missing in the world. I bend over backwards for people and was named mama bear at work. Building community and family in the classroom leads to better outcomes like 100% parent conference attendance.
