Her Interview
Ten minutes with Danielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to building a strong network in Oklahoma City by jumping in quickly through volunteering at the pregnancy center, which connected me with influential people across politics, youth sports, and nonprofits. Being genuine with people and treating everyone well has been key.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to make sure you have a work-home balance. I tend to jump in deep and forget to rest, so having that balance of work and home, knowing when to shut it off, has made a big difference.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Burnout is a real thing, especially in nonprofits you're passionate about. You have to make sure you know that you can do what you can do, build relationships, but separate a little bit and know that you can't fix everything.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are federal cuts for nonprofits and increased scrutiny due to abuse and fraud. Nonprofits need to be transparent with financials and compliant, as there are serious consequences like embezzlement charges. I've had to have hard conversations educating leaders that ignorance is not a defense.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty is most important. I want to give my clients and my kids the very best, stand behind my work proudly, and have my kids know what their mom does and be excited about it.
