What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to strong people skills and the ability to connect with others, coupled with the soft skills that help me navigate challenges effectively. I take pride in identifying problems and building practical, usable solutions. Persistence has also played a key role—driving me to prove doubters wrong—alongside the guidance and strength I draw from my faith.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from Dr. Denise Bates: practice active listening and embrace the principle, "In order to be in service to others, you must first suspend your beliefs." This guidance has become a core professional principle that shapes how I approach every interaction and decision.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to focus on action: ask “what” and “how” to move forward, and you’ll discover the “why” through doing. Build practical skills and financial literacy, bring integrity and a service-minded approach to your work, and support other women along the way. Set aside jealousy, be prepared to work hard and persist—especially as a woman of color—and always focus on actionable steps that move you and your team forward.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field include systemic issues affecting foster youth and the disproportionate barriers faced by women of color, such as limited access to capital. At the same time, there are significant opportunities: collective action by women, growing representation in STEM and leadership roles, and leveraging media to amplify and elevate others.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, service, and alignment with purpose. I prioritize giving back, honoring personal sovereignty and agency, and practicing the suspension of my own beliefs to better serve and understand others.
