Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I think a lot of it comes down to the way I think through my work and being able to speak both languages - the technology side and the business side. Since I originally came from the business side and then moved into more of an IT role and then into transformation-type roles, I'm able to get the right solution on the technical side and then translate that over to the operations and business people in a way that they can understand. I think that ability to bridge those two worlds is the biggest asset of what I do right now.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to be flexible and be open. Sometimes we may be seeing things our own way - maybe it's taking too long to advance, or maybe there have been changes in your job that you may not like - but there's always an opportunity to grow, or to improve, or to move into the direction that you really want to be long-term.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice, especially to women, would be to always be empowering other people and being able to connect positively in a way that you're always open to opportunities and changes. It's okay to be out of your comfort zone, because that is, in my opinion, how we grow - by being out of your comfort zone and doing different things, and being able to receive opportunities and new things as they come along. Through my career in male-led industries, I've noticed that women sometimes tend to be insecure, and I've found that women can have challenges empowering other women, actually. So I think being open to change and always looking for opportunities is important for anyone, but specifically for women, I'd say focus on empowering other people and staying open to stepping outside your comfort zone.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think one of the biggest challenges, and I don't know if it's just in my field or everywhere, is change. I work with change - everything is a change. We're trying to streamline and minimize, and a lot of times that involves changing the process or changing what people are doing. So the biggest challenge is to understand where they're coming from, and then explaining and training and showing them in different ways why that change is maybe necessary, and what they can benefit from - what that change makes beneficial for them.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being kind and helping people is very important to me. That's another part that I really enjoy about my job - I feel like I'm always helping someone or making them feel better at what they're doing with their jobs. For me, people are very important, and how we treat people matters. I believe in just treating others the way you want to be treated - the golden rule. At the same time, I think it's important to be able to pass on benefits to where you are as well, from a company perspective.
