Her Story

About Danielle

Danielle Missall is the Executive Director of Cedar Springs Therapeutic Ranch, a nonprofit equine-assisted therapy organization dedicated to supporting individuals with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. In her leadership role, she oversees daily operations, client scheduling, staffing and volunteer coordination, financial management, and program development. She also works closely with the board of directors, barn manager, and instructors to ensure the health and well-being of the ranch’s herd and the effectiveness of its therapeutic services. Under her guidance, the organization has expanded its client base, strengthened its financial stability, and broadened its community outreach and programming.

Before stepping into nonprofit leadership, Danielle built a long career in early childhood education, working for approximately 12 years as a lead teacher. During this time, she developed strong skills in classroom management, curriculum planning, parent communication, and child development support. After stepping away from the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on raising her five children, she transitioned into nonprofit leadership when she accepted the Executive Director role at Cedar Springs Therapeutic Ranch. Despite having limited prior experience in nonprofit administration, she quickly adapted to the demands of the position and has since played a key role in strengthening and growing the organization.

Danielle earned her Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Moraine Park Technical College, graduating with honors while balancing work and motherhood. She also completed studies at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Her professional approach is shaped by her commitment to service, community impact, and the healing power of human–animal connection. She continues to focus on expanding therapeutic riding opportunities and enhancing programs that serve children, adults, and families in need through equine-assisted therapy, including training aligned with methods from Spirit Horse International.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danielle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being a mother of five boys and to my desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My experiences as a parent have strengthened my resilience, sense of responsibility, and commitment to purpose-driven work, all of which have shaped the way I approach my personal and professional goals.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to find something you genuinely love to do. When you are passionate about your work, it becomes easier to stay motivated, overcome challenges, and remain committed to growth and excellence over time.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is fundraising. As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on community support to sustain our programs and services. However, it can be difficult to ask for donations when many individuals and families are facing their own financial struggles. At the same time, this environment also presents an opportunity to strengthen community relationships and find more creative, compassionate ways to engage supporters in our mission.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My family is the most important value in both my work and personal life. Alongside that, I strongly value honesty and loyalty. These principles guide my decisions, shape how I interact with others, and keep me grounded in both my professional responsibilities and personal relationships.
