Her Story

About Danielle

I was born and raised in Harlem, New York, and I had my son at a young age. In the midst of that, I had to make a decision whether I still wanted to live the life I was living or better myself so I could be the best mom I think I can be. I decided to get into a security job, which grounded me and led me into law enforcement. That was the last career I was looking to get into, but when you're faced with all these real-life things, you start making decisions that's not only better for you but best for my child at the time. I stuck to it and retired in a community affairs investigation role. I worked a lot in investigations, special victims, domestic violence, along those lines. I just relocated from New York to Dallas and I've only been here for 4 months. I'm in the process of writing my memoir. I've been reaching out to a lot of organizations that fit my bio and getting public speaking opportunities and networking. I'm trying to learn the culture, learn everything, just get out there and meet people. I would rather build relationships because I know that more comes out of that than somebody just hiring me to do a speaking opportunity and just leaving. I find that relationships are built better like that, and I think that comes from my community affairs role that I used to have. Pack Your Crown is based on empowerment and fashion. I'm a hat girlie, so I am soon to be dropping a fedora line called Rock Your Crown. I buy clothes and make them my own because I don't like looking like anybody else. I do workshops on hat workshops or redesigning your jacket, something that you already have that you think you can't wear. When we look better, we feel better, so I bring something out of women that they didn't even know they had.

Ten minutes with Danielle

01What do you attribute your success to?

A lot of things that I haven't done in my life, I didn't know how I was gonna do it, I didn't know when I was gonna do it. I made a decision, and I just jumped out on faith and be like, listen, if I don't try, I don't try. If it don't work, I'll figure it out. Sometimes it's not that easy, but I'm a very person that, when I want to do something, I want to do it. And I need to do it to see if it at least works. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. At some point, you gotta set yourself aside and say, they know more than me, or they may see something in me that I don't see in myself. So, what am I switching? Let me just go on this path, see where it takes me. If it takes me nowhere, I'll pivot. I'm always jumping off roofs. If not, I'm jumping off cliffs, mountains, I'm doing something.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stay grounded. Know your worth. And understand that there's only one you. The world could have a thousand people that make jackets, but they don't make your jacket.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Service is the foundation of everything, no matter what industry you're in. That goes whatever money, that's monetary value, that goes much deeper than anything that you can ever receive. I would rather build relationships because I know that more comes out of that than somebody just hiring me to do a speaking opportunity and just leaving. I find that relationships are built better like that. I'm a very creative person, so anything creative I love doing, whether it's house, home, clothing. Creativity is my thing, so when I get bored or overwhelmed, I start creating. It brings me back centered to my happy place.
