Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danielle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think the people around me, and family, friends, coworkers, the people who've given me a chance, the people who have been there for me in the roughest of times. The people that inspire me are the people that are where I am today, and it's just support and care, and I think that I owe it all to them. Support, connection, community, loved ones.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

There's no right path, there's just a path. And there's no such thing as right answers or wrong answers. There's just decisions, and no matter what you do, it's gonna get you somewhere. It's going to be okay, you just have to decide something. And if you hate it, great, you learn from it. Life is just full of miniscule decisions that get us somewhere. And you kind of just have to have faith and surrender to the unknown of that.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Network, but not in an expectant way. Be curious and try to learn from other people. There's no better teacher than life experience. Put yourself out there, nobody's gonna judge you. Coffee chats go a long way, and people are genuinely so great if you just connect with them and learn from them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Having design be so broad, it's almost overwhelming the amount of things you could do with it. You have to choose to be a generalist or a specialist, but you don't have to choose right now. Explore and always try to learn. AI is a tool to embrace, great for concepting ideas and making the intangible tangible.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, kindness, community and connection, and empathy. Empathy goes strong into everything I try to do in work and personal life. Never judge another person because if you were in the same shoes you'd turn out the same. Curiosity, always learn and grow, meet people, hear their perspectives. Put myself into another person's shoes and think about how they would perceive whatever I'm creating.
