About Danielle

Danielle Tertulien is a fashion entrepreneur, designer, pattern maker, and apparel development specialist with more than three decades of experience transforming creative concepts into production-ready collections. As the founder of Dante Fashion Apparel Plus and Danté Couture, she has built a career centered on helping emerging designers successfully launch and grow their clothing lines through expert pattern making, garment construction, sample development, grading, technical documentation, and production consulting. Known for her meticulous craftsmanship and collaborative approach, Tertulien has guided numerous designers from initial sketches to finished garments showcased at events including New York Fashion Week. Her passion for fashion began early, inspired by her mother, a fashion designer, and has evolved into a lifelong commitment to excellence, innovation, and empowering others in the industry.

Tertulien earned a bachelor's degree in Fashion/Apparel Design from Cégep Marie-Victorin in Montreal, Canada, before advancing her studies at the Académie Internationale de Coupe de Paris, where she specialized in menswear, womenswear, suits, and formal wear. Throughout her career, she has worked as a fashion consultant, freelance pattern maker, sample maker, fashion stylist, and production advisor, providing technical expertise to independent designers and established brands alike. Her extensive knowledge of apparel development, pattern grading, garment construction, and production processes has established her as a trusted resource for designers seeking to transform creative ideas into high-quality finished products. In recognition of her contributions to the fashion industry, she was selected to be featured as an Influential Women 2026 honoree representing New York.

Beyond her technical expertise, Tertulien is passionate about mentoring aspiring fashion professionals and fostering a collaborative community within the industry. She believes that true success comes not only from personal achievement but also from helping others realize their potential by sharing knowledge, encouragement, and practical guidance. She encourages young women—particularly immigrant entrepreneurs—to remain confident, persistent, and committed to continuous learning while supporting one another throughout their careers. Guided by the values of dedication, perseverance, craftsmanship, elegance, and service, Tertulien continues to build her luxury fashion brand while inspiring the next generation of designers to pursue excellence with creativity and purpose.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danielle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my own dedication, perseverance, and commitment to helping others succeed. My goal has never been to achieve success for myself alone—I believe in sharing my knowledge and being available to support others as they build their own careers. When I know how to help someone, I gladly do so because I believe success becomes more meaningful when it is shared.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to always put the customer first. I strive to see every project from the client's perspective, do my very best to meet their expectations, and communicate honestly whenever something cannot be accomplished. Building trust through transparency and exceptional service has always been essential to my work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women, especially those entering a highly competitive industry, to build a supportive community and share their knowledge with one another. Be confident in your abilities, remain persistent through challenges, and never stop learning. Supporting other women and growing together creates stronger opportunities for everyone.

First, master your craft. Talent opens doors, but knowledge, discipline, and consistency build a lasting career. Second, don't compare your journey to someone else's. Success takes time, and every experience teaches you something valuable. Third, never stop learning. Fashion constantly evolves, so be curious and continue developing your skills. Finally, believe in yourself. Don't wait for permission to pursue your dreams. If you have a vision, work hard, stay focused, and keep moving forward. Your background doesn't define your future — your determination does.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in today's fashion industry is the highly competitive New York market, where staying relevant requires continuous learning and adapting to changing trends. At the same time, this environment creates tremendous opportunities for designers who remain resilient, continue developing their skills, and consistently deliver high-quality work.

Building a business is never easy, especially in the fashion industry. One of my biggest challenges has been starting my own brand after spending years helping others build theirs. It requires courage to step into the spotlight after working behind the scenes. I've also faced financial challenges, balancing multiple responsibilities, and learning the business side of entrepreneurship while continuing to grow creatively. However, every obstacle has made me stronger. I believe challenges don't stop us — they prepare us. They've taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of believing in my vision even when the path isn't easy

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most are dedication, perseverance, craftsmanship, and helping others succeed. I believe in creating elegant, high-quality work that inspires confidence while fostering a spirit of collaboration and community. Whether I am designing garments or mentoring emerging designers, I strive to make a positive impact through excellence, generosity, and integrity.
