Ideas alone don't build businesses or create legacies. Discipline and execution does. Being busy isn't the same as being productive.

Her Interview
Ten minutes with Danielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong example set by my grandmother, aunt, and mother, each of whom shaped my values, leadership style, and work ethic. My grandmother was an entrepreneur who opened her own salon in the 1960s and became the first Black woman in Milwaukee to own a salon outright without a loan. Her entrepreneurial spirit, determination, and resilience inspired the name “Hustle and Grace,” which reflects the values I carry with me today. My aunt, who managed Milwaukee’s City Block Grant Administration, demonstrated the importance of effective leadership, responsibility, and service to the community. My mother instilled in me a strong work ethic and the belief that dedication, perseverance, and integrity are essential to achieving lasting success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received has come through the examples set by the women in my family, particularly my grandmother, aunt, and mother. My grandmother taught me that ambition, perseverance, and grace can coexist; as an entrepreneur who operated her own salon in the 1960s, she showed me the power of building something meaningful through determination and confidence. My aunt demonstrated what strong leadership and professional achievement look like through her work managing Milwaukee’s City Block Grant Administration, inspiring me to pursue opportunities where I could make an impact. My mother instilled in me the importance of a strong work ethic, continuous learning, and staying engaged throughout every stage of life. Their examples taught me to lead with confidence, work with purpose, embrace challenges, and always carry myself with both determination and grace.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to be bold, use your voice, and never allow anyone to diminish your confidence or silence your perspective. In male-dominated environments, women’s assertiveness can sometimes be misinterpreted as aggression, but that should never discourage you from speaking up, advocating for yourself, and contributing your ideas. Own your expertise, trust your instincts, and show up fully in every opportunity. Your perspective has value, and you deserve to be heard, respected, and recognized for the impact you bring to the table.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating a traditionally male-dominated industry while continuing to lead with confidence, resilience, and authenticity. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities for professionals who are willing to embrace change, expand their expertise, and step into unfamiliar areas. Throughout my career, I have intentionally pursued opportunities across AML, fraud, operations, risk, process improvement, and controls, allowing each challenge to strengthen my knowledge and leadership capabilities. Looking ahead, I am excited to leverage my experience across these areas to return to investigations and ultimately lead a Financial Investigations Unit or Special Investigations Unit, where I can make a meaningful impact through strategic leadership and problem-solving.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and empathy are the core values that guide me in both my professional and personal life. I believe effective leadership begins with honesty, transparency, and accountability, while also recognizing that employees are whole people with responsibilities, experiences, and lives beyond the workplace. I strive to lead with compassion, respect, and understanding, creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. For me, strong leadership is not only about achieving results but also about building trust, treating others with dignity, and leading by example.
