About D'Arcey
D'Arcey Gumbert is a dedicated Medical Technologist with more than two decades of experience in clinical laboratory science, currently serving with CompuNet Clinical Laboratories at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Inspired to pursue a career in laboratory medicine after her own experience with idiopathic thrombocytopenia (ITP) during adolescence, she earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology from the University of Cincinnati in 2003. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to advancing alongside the ever-evolving technologies in healthcare while delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory results that support patient care.
As a laboratory generalist, D'Arcey works across multiple laboratory benches, excluding blood bank, with expertise in specimen processing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, bone marrow specimen handling, and supporting high-volume emergency department testing. Her previous roles at WellNow Urgent Care, Vidant Medical Center, Mercy Mt. Orab, and MEDLAB have strengthened her ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity healthcare environments where adaptability, critical thinking, and precision are essential. She has also contributed to quality assurance initiatives, turnaround time improvements, equipment maintenance, and laboratory operations, earning recognition for her dependable performance, willingness to support her team, and commitment to excellence.
Beyond her technical expertise, D'Arcey believes that outstanding medical laboratory professionals are defined not only by their clinical skills but also by their integrity, communication, and sound judgment. She values punctuality, collaboration, and maintaining a positive attitude, even in demanding situations. An active member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and professional laboratory communities, she remains engaged in continuous learning and professional development. Outside of the laboratory, D'Arcey is an independent Scentsy fragrance consultant, combining her entrepreneurial spirit with her passion for creating welcoming environments and connecting with others.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mother’s strong work ethic. She began her career as a nurse before transitioning to a role as a teacher’s aide, and her dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving others have inspired me to work hard and pursue my goals with purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to stay in my lane and be a team player. Focusing on my own responsibilities while supporting those around me has helped me build strong relationships, contribute effectively, and achieve shared success.
Mastering the former is not that easy.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don’t be afraid to learn something new every day. Stay open to growth and recognize that valuable lessons can come from everyone—whether they’re seasoned professionals or those just starting their careers.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is staff shortages. Maintaining adequate staffing levels is essential to delivering high-quality care and support, making workforce recruitment and retention a critical priority.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me are communication and punctuality. Clear, respectful communication fosters trust and collaboration, while being punctual reflects reliability, professionalism, and respect for other people's time.
