Her Story

About Darci

Darci Shin is a Mental Health Specialist, educator, and life coach based in Kaneohe, Hawaii, with more than 30 years of professional experience dedicated to education, personal development, and community service. She currently works at the Women’s Community Correctional Center, where she supports individuals through mental health-focused coaching, positive self-talk, and strengths-based approaches. Her career has also included teaching preschool and kindergarten and serving as an Education Specialist at Waiawa Correctional Facility, reflecting her commitment to helping people discover their abilities regardless of their circumstances.

Darci’s professional philosophy centers on empowerment, emotional intelligence, inclusion, and meaningful personal growth. She believes in meeting people where they are, encouraging small but consistent steps forward, and helping individuals focus on their strengths rather than being defined by their challenges. Her experience working with both children and incarcerated individuals has strengthened her skills in education, conflict resolution, community outreach, self-coaching, and innovative learning. She is also passionate about serving as a change agent and “seed planter,” creating opportunities for growth in individuals and communities.

Darci holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Psychology and Speech from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, a post-baccalaureate teaching certificate from Arizona State University, a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in early education from Ottawa University, and a graduate certificate in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She is also developing Sprouts Life Coaching and writing a book to share her insights and experiences. Outside of work, Darci enjoys spending time outdoors, walking along the beach, gardening, reading, trying new foods, and nurturing both plants and people.
