About Darlene
Darlene Dorsette, M.Ed., Ed.S., is a dedicated educator and advocate serving as the Supervisor of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program at Detroit Public Schools Community District. With more than a decade of experience in special education and leadership, Darlene brings a passionate, student-centered approach to her work, emphasizing the importance of early language acquisition and inclusive support for all learners. Her leadership focuses on empowering DHH students and ensuring access to equitable education that supports both academic growth and social-emotional well-being.
A proud alumna of Wayne State University and Walden University, Darlene holds advanced degrees in educational leadership and administration. She actively champions initiatives such as LEAD-K Michigan, promoting early language development for children ages 0–5, and uses her platform to raise awareness about the intersection of disabilities—particularly the often-overlooked experiences of DHH students with autism. Beyond her role in education, she serves on the board of Detroit Black Deaf Advocates and is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., continuing her lifelong commitment to community uplift and advocacy.
