Her Interview
Ten minutes with Darlene
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my strong customer service foundation and my ability to truly listen to clients. Being able to keep clients calm, understand their needs, and deliver effective solutions has been essential. My growth also came from recognizing and embracing opportunities early in my career, especially when I transitioned into credit card servicing and later into JPMorgan Chase, where my career advanced rapidly into private client services.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received came during my time at DeVry University, where I was encouraged to pursue a dual-track approach in technical management and business. I was told to “go for it” and build flexible skills so I could open more career pathways. That advice helped me stay adaptable and prepared for opportunities across different areas of financial services.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women to never give up and to always go after opportunities confidently. It is important to build versatile skills so you can adapt to different roles and industries within financial services. Most importantly, believe in your ability to sit at the table and contribute value—you belong there just as much as anyone else.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is managing the complexity and emotional intensity of supporting high-profile global clients, especially when urgent needs involve safety, travel, or medical situations. It requires precision, confidentiality, and calm under pressure. At the same time, there are significant opportunities in expanding digital banking, wealth management, and AI-driven tools that improve efficiency and enhance client engagement experiences.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me are listening, integrity, client safety, confidentiality, and persistence. I believe in building trust through consistent communication and ensuring clients feel supported no matter how complex the situation may be.
