About Darnesha
Darnesha Abreu Torres is an Early Childhood Educator and Soccer Coach with KidsUnited USA based in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. In her current role, she works with youth athletes across indoor (futsal) and outdoor soccer programs, supporting both development teams and travel squads for children roughly ages 6–12. Her coaching approach emphasizes not only technical skill-building but also teamwork, discipline, and confidence, with a strong focus on helping young players grow both on and off the field. She brings a diverse background in education, customer service, and creative arts. Previously, she worked in early childhood education while also gaining leadership experience as a retail manager. Alongside her professional work, she pursued academic training in Graphic Design at Middlesex College, where she developed skills in digital design, Adobe software, and visual communication. Her transition from traditional art to graphic design during the COVID-19 period strengthened her adaptability and deepened her creative practice. Darnesha’s educational and personal development journey continues as she prepares to advance her studies at Kean University, building toward a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. She is also a first-generation college student and has been recognized through honor societies such as Tri-Alpha and Kappa Pi, reflecting her academic commitment and perseverance. Outside of work, she is involved in community and volunteer efforts, including church activities and advocacy work connected to pageantry initiatives, while maintaining interests in digital art, travel, and youth development.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to staying true to myself in everything I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” I was also reminded of the importance of not settling and of staying true to myself throughout my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give to young women entering my industry is to work hard and never settle. I believe it’s important to avoid becoming too comfortable and instead continuously strive for growth, improvement, and new opportunities while staying true to yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I face in my field is working as a female coach in an environment where I often have to be more assertive to be taken seriously by athletes. I’ve learned that confidence and clear communication are essential in establishing credibility and ensuring my voice is heard and respected.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are responsibility, strong morals, and having a clear understanding of who I am.
