About Darshana

Darshana Shah is a pharmaceutical scientist with approximately 8 years of industry experience. She currently works at Allura Pharmaceuticals in Tampa, Florida, where she applies her expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, formulation development, and intranasal delivery systems. Shah earned her bachelor's degree in pharmacy in India and is a registered pharmacist there. She then pursued further studies in the United States, completing both her master's and PhD degrees in pharmaceutical sciences at St. John's University in New York. Prior to her doctoral program, she gained manufacturing experience at Guardian Drug Company, a contract development and manufacturing organization. During her PhD, she developed a formulation for intranasal delivery of insulin, conducting pre-formulation studies, in vivo and in vitro characterization, and toxicity studies. She also served as a teaching assistant, leading compounding labs for classes of 50 students and supervising a team of 9 teaching assistants. Shah has published three peer-reviewed journal articles based on her doctoral work. She is actively involved in professional organizations, recently joining the Healthcare Business Association (HPA) Tampa chapter and serving on its board as Director of Marketing. Shah is passionate about mentoring young students and women in her field.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be curious and open to learning new things. Say yes to opportunities and be comfortable being uncomfortable. Go the extra mile, take bold steps, network, and develop meaningful relationships. Never feel that you're not enough; acknowledge your accomplishments and lift others with you.
