Her Story
About Darya
Darya Karichkina began her professional path with a degree in graphic design. During college she decided to pursue a minor in interaction design, which proved more engaging than her major classes and prompted her to switch focus to UX UI design. She has been working in UX UI design for three years, including two years at a startup as part of a four-person team that includes a female CEO. Darya attributes her success to advocating for herself by applying to many opportunities and continuing to push forward despite rejection. She advises young women entering the industry to get comfortable with rejection, pursue goals without fear of setbacks, accept that paths are not always linear, and persevere through ups and downs.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Darya
01What do you attribute your success to?
I advocate for myself by applying to many opportunities and pushing forward even when facing rejection. I got my startup role through a friend of a friend connection but otherwise just kept applying and trying things out on my own.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I hear advice here and there from podcasts and people, and it accumulates until it clicks and you understand what it means to persevere. The way to put it is just keep going and don't be afraid of rejection.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get comfortable with rejection and know that if you really want something, pursue it but don't be afraid if it doesn't work out. Accept that there might be other paths and it's not going to be linear. Persevere through the ups and downs.
