About Dasia
Dasia Funderburk serves as a Revenue Cycle Specialist in the healthcare industry, working remotely from Raleigh, North Carolina. She has approximately eight years of experience in the field since 2018. In her current role she reviews patient charts, verifies insurance coverage and payer details, and processes claims while meeting required hourly targets, often by working across multiple queues when volume is low. Prior to this position she advanced from front desk receptionist to manager at an urgent care facility. Dasia earned her associate's degree in healthcare management in April and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in healthcare management. She is also studying for her certified revenue cycle certification and healthcare management certification, with plans to complete both by the end of November. As a mother of two she emphasizes the importance of a strong support system from family, coworkers, and supervisors to balance work and personal responsibilities.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be discouraged if you lack a degree but have experience. Apply anyway because experience often matters more than a degree from someone straight out of college.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Make sure it's a field you really want to work in and help people. Have a great personality and patience to deal with different people. Treat patients how you would want to be treated.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Hitting required claims per hour in work queues, especially when volume is low due to more team members. Working in different queues helps meet targets.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Having a good support system, especially as a mom of two, from family, coworkers, and supervisors to balance work and personal life.
