About Davida
Davida Chatman is a registered nurse with 24 years of clinical experience in pediatric nursing. Her career has encompassed acute care, pediatric emergency care, management, oncology, and outpatient pediatrics. After an early interest in becoming an obstetrician gynecologist, she was inspired by a church member to pursue nursing for its diversity of opportunities. Chatman transitioned into academia in 2016 and now serves as junior faculty while completing her PhD, recently awarded an $8,000 national scholarship as one of eight scholars. She holds certifications as a Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse. Chatman is a member of the Association of Black Nurse Faculty, Texas Nursing Association District 9, American Nurse Association, National League for Nursing, and Emergency Nursing Association, as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She attributes her success to her parents' encouragement to complete college degrees and their instilled values of work ethics, leadership, and strategic networking. Outside her professional roles, Chatman serves as Young Adult Director at her church, co-chairs the Enhance the Environment committee focused on tree planting and cleanups, acts as a Voter Deputy Registrar, and organizes an annual back-to-school backpack giveaway providing 150 to 250 backpacks.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My parents were very instrumental in encouraging my brothers and me to complete our college degrees. They have continued to push my personal boundaries so I can maximize my added value to the profession. Their work ethics, leadership, and strategic networking skills are things they instilled in us that I still use today.

Focus on what you can do. And let go of the rest.
