Dawn Dorin
Dawn Dorin is the Managing Owner of Eventide Senior Concierge, LLC, based in Swansboro, North Carolina. She leads a growing senior home care business where she oversees nearly every aspect of operations, including caregiver hiring and support, client intake, scheduling, and process improvement. With a background in Creative Writing and Literature from Emerson College, she brings strong communication skills and a thoughtful, people-centered approach to her leadership style.
Her professional career has been rooted in service and advocacy across multiple helping professions. Before launching her current business in 2021, she spent years working in roles such as substance abuse counseling, prison-based life skills education and interview preparation, and 15 years with the Better Business Bureau assisting both consumers and business owners. She also has entrepreneurial experience from previously launching and selling a cleaning and organizing business, giving her a broad foundation in both nonprofit and small business environments.
Dawn’s work is driven by a strong belief in dignity, companionship, and access to care for seniors who may not have family support. She emphasizes the importance of matching caregivers to clients based on personality and emotional connection, not just task-based needs. Her long-term goal is to expand her company’s impact by providing donated care hours to clients who cannot afford services, reflecting her ongoing commitment to service, advocacy, and community support.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to consistently recognizing unmet needs and stepping in to address them with practical solutions and a strong sense of responsibility. Through my work with the Better Business Bureau, I supported business owners with limited literacy skills and guided others in handling customer complaints in a more professional and constructive way, helping them turn challenges into opportunities for growth. My experience—built through hands-on learning, continuous education, and the challenges of starting businesses—has been my greatest teacher. A meaningful friendship and personal loss also reshaped my path, deepening my awareness of seniors in the community who are alone and reinforcing my commitment to serve and support them.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to act without unnecessary delay and not postpone meaningful opportunities. A colleague once told me to “go for it” and not wait for retirement, a reminder that life is too short to defer important decisions. Equally important has been the advice to trust myself and move forward even in moments of insecurity, rather than letting doubt hold me back.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to trust themselves and their capabilities, even when uncertainty or self-doubt arises. It is important to act on opportunities as they come rather than waiting for the “perfect” moment, as growth often happens through experience. I would also encourage them to be intentional about the example they set, as their actions can inspire others and help demonstrate what is possible.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field include staffing shortages and the difficulty of recruiting and retaining quality caregivers, along with the administrative burden of hiring and HR. Licensing delays due to state backlogs also slow down operations. At the same time, there are strong opportunities in emerging technology, as AI tools and training platforms can improve efficiency and support workforce development, even though they require adaptation and learning.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are compassion, service, and accountability. I believe people deserve support when they can no longer care for themselves, and I aim to provide both practical help and meaningful companionship. I also value social awareness and advocacy, staying engaged in broader issues while working toward fairness and positive change in my community.
