Her Story
About Dawn Ja'Net
Dawn Ja'Net Tettey is an Operations Communications Specialist currently serving at Provide A Ride within the transportation industry. In this role, she is responsible for developing training materials, standard operating procedures, and onboarding resources that translate complicated operational processes into clear, accessible guidance for employees. She also strengthens internal and external communication channels, from staff updates and newsletters to rider notifications and service alerts, ensuring that both drivers and passengers stay informed and supported. Her career path into this specialty was shaped by years of experience in coaching, training facilitation, and program coordination, including her leadership of the award-winning Read, Baby, Read! literacy initiative, which sharpened her skills in public communication and community engagement. Tettey's professional journey has not followed a traditional academic route; she moved in and out of college over the years, shifting between majors as her interests evolved. Rather than viewing this as a setback, she has treated it as part of her story, relying instead on initiative, adaptability, and the relationships she has cultivated to advance her career. That belief in the power of connection once led her to run a nonprofit organization, It's Who You Know, Inc., built around the idea that opportunity often comes through the people you know and the rooms you're willing to enter. Since joining Provide A Ride in 2026, leaving behind Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, she has been promoted three times, reflecting the trust her employer has placed in her abilities. Beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, Tettey serves as Chapter Secretary for COMTO Cleveland and holds the position of Board Secretary for the national Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, extending her influence within the broader transportation community. She was also selected to be featured by Influential Women in 2026, recognition of the impact she has made in her field. Guided by a strong emphasis on time and transparency, Tettey continues to mentor and advise young women entering the industry, urging them to learn continuously, find strong mentors, and value every role they take on along the way.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Dawn Ja'Net
01What do you attribute your success to?
I credit my success to the way I was raised and the close relationship I have with my parents, who instilled discipline in me from an early age. I hold myself to high standards, remain committed to constant learning, and have built a strong work ethic over the years that continues to drive me forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The most valuable advice I received was to slow down and truly appreciate the stage I'm in rather than rushing ahead. A former boss once pointed out that I was always racing against time instead of recognizing the value of my current position, and that lesson taught me to focus on doing my present work well rather than constantly chasing what's next.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to absorb as much knowledge as possible, seek out a mentor who can guide them, and never underestimate the value of any position they hold. Every role, no matter how small it may seem, contributes meaningfully to the success of the organization as a whole.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Right now, I'm excited about opportunities to speak at organizations like the local Chamber of Commerce and at local high schools through my board involvement. My current challenge is effectively managing leadership development and scaling impact during a period of rapid upward mobility.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Time and transparency are the two values I hold most important, both professionally and personally. I believe we don't always give either the attention they deserve, so I make a conscious effort to prioritize them in everything I do.
