Her Story

About Dawn

Dawn Lotti serves as a Counselor 3 at a community mental health organization in Columbia City, Oregon. She has been working in the therapy field since 2014, with a primary focus on trauma and addiction, which she approaches as a form of chemical trauma. Lotti previously held a supervisory role but chose to step back into direct client work to maintain closer contact with those she serves. Her professional journey includes experience at The Meadows, where she facilitated workshops and provided inpatient care for clients dealing with addictions. She holds an LCSW credential along with certification as a CSAT, or Clinical Sex Addiction Therapist. Lotti earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Alaska and her Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California. In addition to her community role, she founded her private practice, Grounded Heart Therapy. She attributes her success to the support of her loving husband, who has created space for her to fully be herself in her work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dawn

01What do you attribute your success to?

The support of my loving husband. He has made that space for me to be me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Not to take myself seriously. And to understand your own elevator pitch, something short, something sweet about you that you could share if you wanted to feel heard, seen, and understood.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Check their own pulse and to see if this is their drive and their jam, and if it is, to dive in headfirst and just really get into and practice all the things without reservation, that when they come in with a good heart, they're not going to do any harm.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The lack of funding in order for people to get those services that they really do need. Sometimes getting those services, the financial hardship it creates for them, you know, I still feel like these services should be free.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The ability to listen. I value family, I value compassion. To generate love.
