Her Story
About Dawn
I've been in human resources for about 15 years, and I've been intentional about learning every aspect of this field. I'm currently a Senior Human Resources Business Partner at HCSC, where I've been for almost 5 years supporting the information technology and information security teams. My typical day involves meeting with our chief information technology officer and his executive leadership group, managing human capital plans and projects for 2026 and 2027, and serving as a project manager who delegates tasks to hit or exceed deadlines. I support multiple centers of excellence including compensation, talent management, and organizational design teams, and I lead external projects outside of IT as well. I work closely with my director, who I started with at the company, and I'm currently training three newer team members. I'm known for my approach of working smarter instead of harder. My team has developed a reputation for knowing that I'll find ways to automate tasks and create job aids so we can complete in one week what others expect to take two weeks. I meet regularly with top-line leaders, VPs, and Senior Vice Presidents, providing them with updates and support because I don't like them to be surprised. I treat each leader differently based on their needs, as some are more self-sufficient than others, and I maintain strong interpersonal relationships with all of them. Beyond my day-to-day responsibilities, I have mentees I support who are just getting into HR, helping guide them in their careers.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the motivation I get from the people I work with and support. I love my boss - we started together, me in customer service and her in IT - and we lean on each other. I'm motivated because I love this team and the group that I support, and they just deserve it. The people have been the best part of every job I've had. When I worked in the industrial industry, which was my least favorite industry, the people were just one of the best groups I've ever supported. That connection and dedication to the teams I work with drives me to put in the hours and effort needed to make sure everything is successful. I work smarter, not harder, and I've developed a reputation for finding ways to automate processes and help my teams exceed deadlines. I'm also intentional about my career path - I deliberately worked across multiple industries and learned every aspect of human resources so I could be well-rounded and land where I am now.
