Ten minutes with Dawn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a commitment to continuous learning, adaptability, and building strong relationships with people who bring diverse perspectives and experiences. These qualities have enabled me to navigate complex challenges, foster collaboration, and deliver meaningful business results throughout my career.
Rather than relying on a single mentor, I have intentionally sought guidance from a diverse network of leaders and professionals. Their perspectives have broadened my thinking, strengthened my decision-making, and challenged me to grow as both a leader and a strategist.
I remain committed to lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Through organizations such as the Senior Executives Network, I collaborate with accomplished leaders, exchange ideas, and continue refining my strategic leadership approach to better serve my organization, my team, and the customers we support.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've ever received: Learn from those willing to teach, and teach those willing to learn. True growth happens when knowledge, experience, and perspective are shared.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the field of marketing is to build resilience, embrace feedback, and never stop learning. Marketing is both creative and strategic, making it an inherently subjective profession. Not every idea will resonate with every audience, and constructive criticism is an essential part of the process.
I also encourage women to explore the many facets of marketing, from branding and communications to digital strategy, analytics, content creation, and thought leadership to discover where their strengths, interests, and passions align. Stay curious, be willing to adapt, and pursue the areas that genuinely inspire you. A successful career in marketing isn't built by knowing everything from the start; it's built through continuous learning, meaningful relationships, and the confidence to keep evolving in a constantly changing industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges facing marketing leaders today is navigating the rapid pace of change while continuing to build authentic connections with customers. Advances in technology, artificial intelligence, evolving customer expectations, and an increasingly competitive marketplace are reshaping how brands communicate, engage, and create value.
The opportunity for marketers is finding the right balance between leveraging data and emerging technologies while preserving the creativity, storytelling, and human connection that make brands meaningful. Customers expect personalized, relevant experiences, but they also demand transparency, trust, and authenticity.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My personal and professional values are rooted in integrity, authenticity, and respect for others. I believe in doing the right thing, even when it is not the easiest path, and in leading with honesty, transparency, and accountability.
Authenticity is central to how I lead because meaningful relationships and strong teams are built on trust. I strive to listen to diverse perspectives, encourage open dialogue, and create an environment where people feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute.
Respect guides how I work with others. I believe every individual brings unique experiences, ideas, and strengths, and that embracing those differences leads to stronger collaboration and better outcomes. These values shape my decisions, define my leadership approach, and influence how I support the people and organizations I have the privilege to serve.
