Ten minutes with Dayy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, faith and staying committed to my goals even during times when I felt like giving up. I have worked through challenges without shortcuts or outside advantages, relying on prayer and grace to guide me through each stage of my journey. Over time, I’ve learned to trust the direction I’m being led, even when it isn’t immediately clear, knowing things always make sense in hindsight. My experiences have shaped a blueprint I can pass on to my children so they can be better equipped with tools, knowledge, wisdom and understanding of their own resilience while on their life journey. By seeing and hearing other women’s stories of strength and perseverance, it reminds me that shared experiences can positively impact, inspire, restore, and keep us moving forward as an empowered collective.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to clearly define my “WHY.” My cousin, Jovonna Wright, who I also view as a mentor, shared this with me during a conversation about what keeps us motivated in our respective journeys. She explained that her children are her driving force and she’s not only thinking about her own future, but the future generations of her lineage and hearing her speak about that gave me a moment of deep clarity and connection, because I realized I often feel the same way, but hadn’t fully put it into words on why I felt that way. I’ve also been deeply encouraged by conversations with my cousin, who helped me better understand the importance of knowing my “WHY” and what that truly means for my life, my future, my children and my career. That perspective was an awakening moment for me—it helped me understand that purpose is deeply personal, yet rooted in love, meaning, and responsibility. Since then, I’ve carried that lesson with me as a grounding force, reminding me to stay focused, persevere through uncertainty, and always return to my purpose when challenges arise.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I would give to young women entering my industry is to be clear about what you want in life and let it guide you through every stage of your journey. It’s okay to set goals and work towards them and it’s also okay to go further than the goals you have set. Be yourself always and remain authentic. Your journey is a unique experience for you and everyone sometimes won’t understand your vision. When you understand your purpose, it becomes easier to stay grounded during uncertainty, motivated through challenges, and focused when the path forward isn’t clear. I’ve learned that having a deeply impactful personal experiences— whether rooted in family, growth, or responsibility, understanding and knowing your purpose can sustain you far beyond external motivation. I would also encourage them to trust their own timeline, stay committed to learning, seek mentorship when possible, and to not be discouraged by limited resources or setbacks, because consistency and purpose will always create momentum over time.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are representation, resilience, and support. Seeing others with similar experiences reminds me that difficult seasons are temporary and that growth is always possible. I also value rest and reflection as essential for staying grounded and emotionally balanced. Most of all, I believe in women supporting women, because having community and encouragement makes it easier to stay strong, focused, and hopeful while navigating life’s responsibilities.
