What do you attribute your success to?
My work ethic has always been what has helped me be successful at anything I have tried. Whether it was getting through college, starting my own business, or going back to the professional world after so many years working for myself, my drive, tenacity and willingness to do the work has served me all along the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never lose sight of who you are and try to honor that in anything you do.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Financial services has always been a male dominated industry and still is today. So while you are going to get frustrated with the 'boy's club' mentality, (and believe me, it's still alive and well,) focus on what you can control. Be your best self for your clients because they need you and at the end of the day, your satisfaction with the work you do is all that matters.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
When I started in financial services, only 6% of women were financial advisors and while it has gotten better, only 15-20% are in top industry leadership unfortunately. The gender pay gap still persists in the U.S., but we are making progress. Always try to remember that your work today will help the women of tomorrow.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are creativity, care, and connection. I express these through quilting, breeding Belgian Malinois', and most importantly, my love for horses, which teaches me patience, discipline, and dedication every day.
