Her Story

About Deb

Deb Watson is the host of The Unpatterned Podcast and the person people find after years of therapy, Enneagram, and deep inner work, when they still can't figure out why they keep reacting the same way.

Her work is built around one core idea: patterns aren't personality flaws, they're nervous system protection strategies. And until you learn to work with your body's safety responses instead of trying to override them, awareness alone won't create the change you're looking for.

Drawing on over 20 years in the corporate world, a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and certification as an Enneagram coach, Deb brings both lived experience and real depth to her work. She integrates the Enneagram as a precision map for understanding specific protection strategies, and somatic awareness as the mechanism for creating real, embodied change.

Her clients are people who have done the work, know themselves well, and are still watching themselves react the same way in the moments that matter most.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Deb is a wife and mom of five.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Deb

01What do you attribute your success to?

Every teacher who has come into my world, even briefly, has left something behind. Some plant a seed and move on. Some stay longer. All of it accumulates into where I am today.

I wouldn't have discovered this work without the corporate years. I wouldn't have understood the body without the ER visits. I wouldn't have found the Enneagram without the burnout that sent me looking. None of it felt like success at the time, but looking back, it was all part of the same thread.

I attribute my success to following that thread, even when I couldn't see where it was going.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Gabby Bernstein said "let your fear fuel your fire". Because the fear never really goes away, and waiting for it to disappear before you move is just a very sophisticated way of staying stuck. Every meaningful thing I've done in my career, leaving corporate, starting the podcast, building this work, I did scared. The fear was there every time. I just stopped waiting for it to leave before I started.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust the journey even when it doesn't make sense. The corporate years, the hard seasons, the detours that felt like failures, none of it is wasted. It's all accumulating into something. And this one matters more than most people will tell you: your worth is not tied to your output. The personal development space can quietly teach you the opposite, that you have to keep producing, proving, performing to deserve your seat at the table. You don't. What you have to offer the world doesn't diminish when you're not actively broadcasting it. Trust that. And keep going anyway.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The personal development space is noisy right now, and people are burned out on it. Everyone has a course, a cohort, a framework, and a lot of it moves people through content without actually moving them. Clients are savvier than ever and they're tired of insight that doesn't translate into real change.

That's actually the opportunity. The people who are done with surface-level solutions are looking for something with genuine depth and a clear mechanism for change, not just more awareness. They want to understand why they're still reacting the same way after all the work they've done, and they want something that actually addresses that gap.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Compassion is at the center of everything, for ourselves and for others. I believe fundamentally that people are not broken. They're patterned. And there's a profound difference between those two things. Most behavior is protection. We are all just trying to make our way through this world, get our needs met, and feel safe and loved. When I can hold that about someone, including myself, everything changes.
