Her Story
About Debbie
Debbie Martinez serves as a National Trainer in the medical sales industry, where she has built a 16-year career focused on patient care and professional growth. Starting from her high school graduation as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medical Assistant, she earned an associate's degree as a scrub tech from Career Centers of Texas, gaining operating room experience, and is now completing her bachelor's degree in Case Management and Patient Relationship at the University of Phoenix. In her role, she manages training itineraries, in-services, and follow-ups with doctors, clinics, and wound centers while traveling nationally. She attributes her success to her mother, an immigrant who fought for her family's opportunities, and emphasizes values of integrity, compassion, and honesty in healthcare. Martinez finds the greatest reward in helping patients, such as salvaging limbs through wound care, and she achieved a notable milestone by scheduling a national cadaver lab in her hometown of El Paso as the first in her position. She advises others to stay true to themselves, remain strong and humble, and recognize that being a woman enhances rather than limits opportunities for growth.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Debbie
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mother is an immigrant that came to this country and fought for us to be born here and to fight. Because of her, I've been able to be successful and be the strong woman that I am now.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be you. Don't let your passion guide you. Just be you. Don't change because of who you're speaking to or who you're coming across. You know, just be you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay strong. Don't forget where you came from. Be humble, be committed. And just stay positive. Always be positive. Just because you're a woman doesn't change your opportunity. Just because you're a woman doesn't minimize your opportunity. Because you're a woman, you should be stronger, and you should stand out, and just want to grow.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is myself. Where am I going to stop myself? Am I going to allow something to stop me? So even in my profession and in my personal, it's myself. It's where am I going to allow myself to stop, or am I going to allow myself to grow? I don't see although there is a lot of competitors, as far as companies in my industry. I still know that my worth, my knowledge, is stronger than theirs, so at the end of the day, it's where am I stopping myself?
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, compassion, honesty. Especially in healthcare. Having integrity, making sure that your patients are taken care of, and you're providing the most honest opinion to make sure that these patients are taken care of.
