Her Story
About Debbie
I have been in real estate for over 20 years, and I wouldn't want to do anything else - I love it. I started my career as a leasing agent and was promoted to property manager within 2 years. A couple of years after that, I was promoted to regional property manager, and then I moved to the corporate level soon after. Throughout my career, I've worked with different real estate assets including commercial, retail, and mostly multifamily properties. Currently, many of the properties I manage are mixed-use. In my role as asset manager for the past 2 years, there is never a typical day. I work with property management companies as a team to figure out what we can do to have the highest NOI possible. I review properties and sites we're looking to develop, and with the current market and interest rates, we're looking at what we can do to bring the most value to our assets. My most notable professional achievement was finishing my graduate degree at Georgetown while working, which was particularly challenging as my husband of 30 years passed away during my first semester. Despite these personal challenges, I was able to continue as Director of Operations at Newman Student Housing while completing my studies.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Right now with the market, builders want to sell and we're trying to sell properties, but with the interest rates we're ending up retaining them. So we're looking at what we can do to bring the most value to our assets. That's what we're working on right now.
