Debbie Seidel-Bittke, RDH, BS, is a celebrated dental hygienist, educator, and entrepreneur with more than three decades of experience transforming dental practices worldwide. Beginning her career as a clinical dental hygienist, she went on to teach at the University of Southern California Dental School as an assistant professor and served as president of the Orange County Dental Hygienist Society. Her expertise spans clinical hygiene, dental education, and practice management, with a particular focus on optimizing hygiene departments to improve patient care, increase office efficiency, and drive profitability.
Since founding Dental Practice Solutions in 2000, Debbie has become a sought-after speaker, consultant, and coach, helping dental offices internationally enhance patient outcomes and operational systems. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, a can-do attitude, and tenacity. I approach challenges with persistence, never give up, and consistently apply a strong work ethic to achieve my goals.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from my husband, who encouraged me to promote my knowledge and get paid for it. That simple nudge inspired me to launch my consulting and speaking career, turning my expertise into meaningful opportunities.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: pull yourself together, take the next step forward, and never look back. Approach challenges with courage and resolve, and trust in your ability to keep moving forward.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field has been the disruption caused by the pandemic, which significantly affected dental practices and in-person education. At the same time, there is a tremendous opportunity in the growing recognition of the oral-systemic connection, as specialty dentists—including oral surgeons and periodontists—increasingly seek focused workshops and continuing education to enhance their expertise.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, openness, and transparency. I strive to approach every interaction with integrity and a willingness to listen and learn.
