Her Story

About Debbra

Debbra Brouillette began her career as a healthcare writer, producing brochures and newsletters for hospitals and other businesses. After moving from Indiana to Texas, she transitioned to travel writing, starting with an online column called Tropical Travel Examiner on Examiner.com based on her 20 years of tropical travel experience and scuba diving certification from the early 1990s. She secured her first press trip to French Polynesia after pitching the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and continued with regular assignments until around 2018 when the paper stopped using freelancers. Brouillette then launched her own website, Tropical Travel Girl, as an online resume. Upon returning to Indiana, her focus shifted to food and wine writing. She joined the International Food Wine Travel Writers Association, where she now serves on the board and as associate editor of its online magazine, Food Wine Travel. She also writes about cruising and has received awards for her writing and photography from the North American Travel Journalists Association and the International Food Wine Travel Writers Association. Brouillette earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Indiana State University Evansville and advises aspiring writers to gain experience through school papers, summer jobs, and local publications to build clips.

Take as many opportunities in college to be on the school paper, take summer jobs that involved writing, do any other local publications just to get clips.
