About Deborah
Deborah Carey serves as Program Coordinator for the Case Management Studio at Dallas College in Dallas, Texas. In this role, she supports non-clinical case managers with best practices around student support services and also works with community organizations on case management for issues such as STI prevention, domestic violence, and drug prevention. Prior to joining Dallas College, Deborah accumulated 16 years of experience in education, including a decade focused on college and career readiness as a teacher of 11th and 12th graders, a college counselor, and a consultant. She also served as a social-emotional learning coach and mental health specialist, facilitating trainings, instructional design, and curriculum development. Deborah earned her bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in sociology and is currently pursuing graduate studies in higher education, with a focus on organizational leadership, at Abilene Christian University. She holds certifications in trauma-informed care, trauma-informed coaching, and Mental Health First Aid. Her career has been driven by a passion for equity in education and supporting vulnerable students, shaped by her own experiences growing up in New Orleans and her advocacy work following Hurricane Katrina.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never lose sight in who God made you to be, and always seek out your identity in Christ. Leverage that, because God wants the abundance for us. Don't let your immediate reality hold your future hostage. Always make decisions that's gonna allow you to win, and that's gonna be a reflection of your well-being. Find your formula for doing your best at anything that you encounter.
