Her Interview
Ten minutes with Deborah
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my discipline, you know, my self-confidence in myself, being very disciplined, and then always holding myself very accountable. Accountability from ourselves is a big thing, and also putting myself in a space where my team can also hold me accountable for things really pushes me and drives me to that success. Having good discipline and balance, carving out time to work out and work on my mental health so I can be the best version of myself at work.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Hard work always beats talent. You can have very talented people, but as long as you put the work in and persevere, that's the recipe for success. Never give up. There's been many times in my career that I wanted to give up... having that positive mindset and just not giving up, I think is usually the time when your breakthrough comes.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. Learn as much as you can from others, definitely getting some sort of mentor. Really taking the time to learn different aspects of that field, understanding your market. We're very lucky that we're in a time of AI that can do a lot of the legwork for you, working smarter not harder.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is continuing to grow nationwide, learning new legalities of the different states. Personal injury is not where in all 50 states we have the same legal things. There's different policy limits in different states, different legalities of what they consider liability. But the more you learn, nobody can take that away from you.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, loyalty, and being very kind. Everybody in your table should eat with you because your success is not just yourself, it's also the team that helped you get there. Being very transparent but also very kind. You can also be successful and kind.
