Her Interview
Ten minutes with Deborah
01What do you attribute your success to?
Never giving up. Actually caring about people and trying to help them as much as possible. Understanding that everyone has problems including me. So showing empathy is a must. Loving my family.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to remember that everything changes, often within six-month intervals. No matter how difficult a situation may feel today, it is unlikely to remain the same six months from now. I’ve learned to stay patient, keep moving forward, and trust that challenges are temporary. Maintaining that perspective helps me remain resilient, focused, and confident during difficult seasons.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering my industry to learn as much as they can and remain open to continuous growth and development. Just as importantly, approach your work with a genuine desire to help and uplift others rather than focusing solely on personal success. Building your knowledge while using your skills to make a positive difference in the lives of others can create a meaningful and rewarding career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field is ensuring that clients maintain accurate and well-organized financial records. Many individuals who manage their own bookkeeping may not have the necessary experience or knowledge to properly document their transactions. As a result, I often have to restructure and correct their records before I can prepare accurate tax returns. This also creates an opportunity to educate clients on the importance of proper recordkeeping and help them establish better financial practices moving forward.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are continuous learning, growth, and sharing knowledge with others. I’m always looking for opportunities to expand my skills, whether that means taking a data analytics course, advancing my Excel knowledge, or learning sign language. I believe that investing in my personal and professional development strengthens my ability to serve others. Professionally, I make it a priority to stay current with new rules, regulations, and industry practices so I can provide my clients with accurate, timely, and valuable information.
