Her Interview

Ten minutes with Deborah

01What do you attribute your success to?

My most notable achievement is graduating from college, which took me seven years to accomplish after facing serious health challenges. I graduated from high school in 2015, but then went through some health conditions that made my journey much longer than expected. I now have a pacemaker, and I went through so many health issues to finally get to the point where I could accomplish getting my first degree. For me, the biggest lesson from this struggle is that whatever we go through, we should never give up on what we really want to do. You have to overcome challenges in any field or career path you choose. This accomplishment was huge for me because it proved that I could push through adversity and still achieve my goals, and now I want to pursue my second degree in marketing and merchandising.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You can have a successful career in any field that you desire.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You can be a female and work great in a male dominated field.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in my field right now is the ability to continue growing professionally while expanding my impact on the families I serve. I am focused on living up to my full potential, continuing my education, and consistently improving my skills as a sleep consultant.

At the same time, I see real value in the growing awareness around pediatric sleep health and the importance of supporting parents early on. This creates an opportunity to reach more families, provide education, and help normalize the need for healthy sleep habits from the start.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal time, I love reading, especially motivational books that give you knowledge and help you grow as a person. I enjoy devotional books too, but I'm really drawn to books about personal growth and how to overcome challenges. One important thing I've learned is that we all have so many goals we want to accomplish before the year is over, but you should never overwhelm yourself. Out of ten goals, grab three and start from there. This month, I accomplished three goals that I wanted, and it's all about taking baby steps. I'm always looking forward to new opportunities and I'm always open for new doors, because I believe it's always good to learn and grow to get what you need to get.
