Debra Castro has dedicated 29 years to H&R Block, where she serves as the manager in the office while preparing tax returns. Her primary area of expertise is tax preparation, though she started working in real estate in 2020 after attending real estate school. She holds an accounting degree and is a lifetime member of a college organization. Castro is a strong supporter of recovery and substance abuse initiatives as well as church activities. She attributes her long-term client relationships to her willingness to provide her personal cell phone number for year-round assistance and her commitment to showing compassion, especially when delivering difficult news about taxes owed. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I truly care about my clients and want to see them get the most back. I give out my personal cell phone number so they can reach me year-round, even off-season, because I don't mind coming into the office if they have a problem. That's why I've kept a lot of my clients for many years.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Think before you leap. Especially with taxes, it's not all about the money that you can make. It's about truly showing people compassion when it's not always a good thing to have to tell somebody they owe money.
