Her Interview
Ten minutes with Debra
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first to my faith, which has given me strength, direction, and the courage to continue even when the path has been difficult. I also credit my determination, resilience, education, and willingness to learn from every experience. I have never been afraid to work hard, take on new responsibilities, or turn challenges into opportunities for growth.
My family has also been an important source of motivation and support. Their encouragement inspires me to continue building something meaningful and lasting. Most importantly, I remain committed to operating with integrity, treating people with respect, and providing excellent service. I believe true success is not measured only by what you accomplish for yourself, but also by the opportunities you create and the positive difference you make in the lives of others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to consistently uphold professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail in everything I do. I believe in treating others with respect, communicating clearly and effectively, and being dependable and present when others need me. These principles have guided me throughout my career and have helped me build strong, trusted relationships while maintaining a high standard of excellence.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The industry can be challenging, but I would encourage young women to believe in themselves and never be afraid to set healthy boundaries. I would advise them to remain open to learning, work toward financial independence, and never allow mistakes or setbacks to define their potential. Surrounding yourself with relationships and friendships that support your growth is equally important. Most importantly, do not feel pressured to rush your journey or compare your timeline to anyone else’s. Stay focused on your goals, trust your instincts, and have confidence in the path you are creating for yourself.
“Do not wait until you feel completely ready—prepare yourself, trust what you know, and take the opportunity.” Growth often requires stepping outside your comfort zone and believing in your abilities before everything feels perfectly aligned.
That advice has encouraged me to remain open to learning, pursue new opportunities, and never allow fear or self-doubt to limit my potential. I have also learned that your reputation will often enter a room before you do, so it is important to lead with integrity, remain professional, and consistently deliver quality work. Knowledge can open doors, but strong character and dependable service are what keep those doors open.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating an industry that has traditionally been male dominated, particularly as a woman building and growing a successful business. As a one person owner, I also face the ongoing challenge of finding and retaining qualified professionals, coordinating effectively with contractors, keeping up with industry changes, and balancing the expectations of clients and stakeholders. At the same time, these challenges present valuable opportunities for growth. I am focused on managing sustainable business expansion, maintaining consistent cash flow, delivering high quality service, and remaining competitive with larger property management companies while preserving the personalized approach that sets my business apart.
Additional challenges in property management right now are rising maintenance and operating costs, finding dependable and qualified contractors, keeping up with changing housing regulations, and balancing the financial needs of property owners with the growing need for safe and affordable housing. Resident expectations have also increased, requiring property managers to be responsive, transparent, and prepared to resolve concerns quickly while maintaining professionalism and compliance.
At the same time, these challenges create tremendous opportunities. Property owners increasingly recognize the value of experienced, hands-on management that protects their investments while building positive relationships with residents. Technology has also made it possible to improve communication, streamline rent collection and maintenance requests, and manage properties more efficiently.
For smaller companies like D&D Management LLC, the greatest opportunity is providing personalized, attentive service that larger companies may not always offer. By remaining adaptable, informed, and committed to quality, I believe there is significant room to grow, expand services, and build lasting partnerships within the industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are faith, family, integrity, accountability, respect, and service. My faith keeps me grounded and guides the decisions I make, while my family remains my greatest source of motivation and reminds me why I work so hard to create a meaningful legacy.
Integrity is especially important because I believe in doing what is right, even when no one is watching. In business, people trust me with their properties, finances, homes, and personal information, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. I value clear communication, professionalism, consistency, and holding myself accountable for the quality of my work.
I also believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their position or circumstances. Whether I am working with a property owner, resident, contractor, employee, or someone in need, I strive to listen, remain fair, and lead with compassion. Ultimately, I want my success to be measured not only by what I accomplish, but also by the positive impact I make on my family, clients, and community.
