Her Story
About Deeksha
Deeksha Reddy is an international student from India currently in her senior year at the University of Arizona, where she is majoring in Statistics and Data Science with a projected graduation date of May 2027. She originally enrolled as a computer science major but switched paths after realizing she preferred fields that allowed for more interaction with people and the ability to convey insights from data rather than solely coding. With three years of experience in data science, Reddy has gained exposure through campus work as an investment analyst involving due diligence and seed funds, leading her to pursue opportunities in business analytics or financial analytics, including roles in healthcare and finance analysis. She faces challenges in gaining broader exposure to skills across data engineering, analytics, and science, as well as tools beyond those taught in college such as R and SQL. Reddy attributes her success to her parents, who supported her decision to study in the United States, and she emphasizes values including hard work, compassion, ambition to make her family proud, and financial independence.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Deeksha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my parents because I wouldn't be here without them. They took a huge leap of faith sending me here when I was just young and supported me through everything.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never give up. It is definitely male-dominant but you can do everything they can do. Prove them wrong, do it your own way, figure out your interests, and if that's something you want to do, go ahead. Do not care about anything or anyone around you.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the exposure to different skills and fields like data engineering, data analytics, data scientists, each requiring different skill sets. Also getting exposure to tools beyond what's taught in college like R and SQL.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Hard work because it gives you results when you're determined. Compassion and being kind because you never know what people are going through. Being ambitious to achieve something great and make my family proud. Financial independence which brings freedom.
