Her Story

About Deeksha

Deeksha Sinha serves as a research scientist at Meta, where she has spent five years addressing statistics and optimization challenges across various parts of the company. Her academic background includes a PhD in operations research from MIT, with a thesis centered on optimization problems for online platforms, following her completion of a bachelor's and combined bachelor's and master's program at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in Mumbai. Over her ten years in the field, five of which were in academia, she has become an expert in optimization. Deeksha is deeply committed to advancing women's representation in professional settings, having helped achieve a 50-50 gender ratio on her previous Meta team and advocating for balanced speaker and participant representation in events at both Meta and MIT. She attributes her success to the encouragement of her parents and the partnership of her husband, and she emphasizes values of awareness and fairness while advising young women to consciously counter implicit barriers and advocate strongly for one another.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Deeksha

01What do you attribute your success to?

A lot goes to my parents actively encouraging me to pursue whatever I wanted. In this phase of life, very much my husband who has been a great partner. I'm a big advocate for equality for women. My child has my last name, not my husband's.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Not seeing the same number of women as men can implicitly lower the ceiling of where we can reach. We have to consciously act against not letting that happen. Advocate, keep women strong.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Awareness is extremely important to me. Fairness in the systems around us, fairness in how we treat different people.
