Deeptha Babu

Deeptha Babu founded Sena as her undergraduate thesis project while at Pratt Institute in New York City. The initiative, which began in 2022, stems from her personal experiences with sexual assault and the lack of immediate resources she faced before moving to New York. Through SENA App Inc, where she has contributed for the past four years, she aims to build a platform that serves as a safe middle ground and elder sister figure for women facing abuse, offering support before they seek other resources. Her background as an activist, expressed through art and design after growing up in a conservative Indian household where her voice was not valued, led her to publicly share her story in 2021, inspiring others and motivating the app's creation. She has been featured in a news article in the New Indian Express for an illustration on Hindu-Muslim clashes, and she continues to volunteer while leading a volunteer-based team to develop the platform.
