About Deidre

Deidre Hammonds serves as a sales consultant for AR Homes in Indianapolis and the central Indiana area. As part of the Arthur Rutenberg franchise, the company specializes in luxury custom home building with homes ranging from $1.5 million to $5 million. Deidre manages all aspects of sales, including brand marketing, realtor partnerships, and local social media, while splitting her time between remote field work and weekends at the model home. She brings 28 years of experience exclusively in new home sales. In her prior role at David Weakley Homes, she earned Rookie of the Year in her first year and was the top salesperson every year thereafter. She takes particular pride in her success as an African American professional in the luxury segment and in generating 90 percent of her business through realtor referrals.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Deidre

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be honest, be transparent, be genuine. Give bad news first. If you have to give someone a no, make sure you have a good reason why and explain that reason. This comes from my parents' upbringing and work ethic.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Remain true to themselves and focus on the things that they enjoy, because you can sell better. Find that part of the industry that brings you joy then go with that. You can't sell something that you don't believe in.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Land is very scarce these days. Land is scarce and that's nationwide.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Treatment of others is paramount. People know when you give a damn. Treat everyone the same way I would hope that any family member of mine would be treated. I treat people as I would welcome them into my home.
