Her Story

About Delanie

Delanie Wiseman is an insurance professional and underwriter at Authentic, where she focuses on evaluating commercial insurance risks, developing thoughtful coverage solutions, and improving underwriting processes. Her career combines legal training, insurance expertise, financial services experience, and operational problem-solving, giving her a broad perspective on risk assessment and business decision-making. Before joining Authentic, Delanie worked as a licensed insurance agent, served as a Branch Office Administrator with Edward Jones, and held leadership roles that helped shape her adaptable and analytical approach to professional challenges.

Delanie earned a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from The Ohio State University. Her legal education strengthened her analytical reasoning, negotiation, research, and communication skills, which she now applies to underwriting and evaluating complex risks. At Authentic, she works closely with agents and carrier partners to analyze submissions, identify appropriate coverage, improve submission quality, and enhance underwriting workflows. She is also interested in using AI and technology to increase efficiency, streamline operations, and build better tools for insurance professionals.

Beyond her insurance career, Delanie is committed to leadership, mentorship, and community involvement. She coaches competitive volleyball, mentoring young athletes while emphasizing accountability, communication, teamwork, and personal growth. She also volunteers with Shoes for the Shoeless and supports 4-H participants with animal training. Across her professional and community roles, Delanie is motivated by continuous learning, process improvement, and helping others develop their potential while embracing the value of taking a non-traditional path to success.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Delanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my diverse and non-linear career journey, from law school and brewery management to finance, insurance, and underwriting. Each experience has shaped how I assess risk and approach challenges. I especially enjoy the fast-paced startup environment at Authentic Insurance, where I can continuously learn, create, adapt, and help build something new.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come from the mentors who have supported me throughout my journey. My former volleyball coach, Darrell, taught me the importance of confidence and mindset, while my colleague Zafia has continued to guide me professionally. Their influence has reinforced my belief that having trusted people to ask questions, learn from, and seek advice from can make a tremendous difference in your growth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I’d encourage young women entering the industry not to feel pressured to follow a traditional or perfectly defined career path. My own journey has been very non-linear, and that has been a strength. Be authentic, trust yourself, and be confident. Don’t be intimidated or afraid to ask questions—asking is how you learn, grow, and build knowledge.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see technology and AI as both a challenge and an opportunity in underwriting. While AI can improve efficiency, I don’t believe it can completely replace the accuracy and judgment of an experienced underwriter. I see the strongest future in a hybrid approach that combines technology with human expertise and interaction.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are authenticity, confidence, curiosity, education, mentorship, community, and continuous growth. I believe in staying true to who I am, creating a career that reflects my strengths, and never being afraid to ask questions or keep learning. I also value sharing my knowledge and experiences to help others build confidence, grow, and succeed.
