Her Story

About Delila

I honestly kind of fell into this industry. I started my career in the financial industry going back over 30 years as a teller, and I just worked my way up in that financial institution. I landed in a real estate role assisting new construction venues with taking draws out on their approved loan amounts, and that really sparked my interest. I wanted to learn more about the real estate industry, so I became a senior underwriter for a company where I partnered with them for about 13 years. There, I was really helping first-time homebuyers with financing and counseling, focused on purchase sustainability and helping homeowners stay in their homes by offering foreclosure counseling as well. That drew my attention to the realtor side because I understood the back end with all of the lender approvals and what lenders look for when someone applies for a mortgage. I wanted to put faces to those loans, so I obtained my real estate license. I've kind of stayed within the industry in different capacities and have had my hands in a little bit of everything. Today, as a Regional Property Manager, I oversee 3 luxury apartment communities with over a thousand doors and a staff of about 30 team members. My tasks are really just operations, making sure the properties are within budget as far as the financing piece, hiring and working with vendors, and overseeing CapEx projects. I'm very hands-on and have built great rapport with my team. I always tell them there's no me without them, and I see how hard they work on the field. We are pretty much leading the Florida region right now, so they make me proud.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I learned really early that my connection with people got me to where I'm at today. I have really strong integrity and strong work ethic, and that has really propelled me to all of my roles and promotions and acknowledgements. 02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, although the industry seems large, it's really pretty small. Always work with integrity, because the people you pass going up, you may pass coming down. I think your character and your work ethic is really, really important.
