Her Story

About Delores

I am a self-published author since 2022 with four books on U.S. Military Hidden Figures and currently working on my fifth volume. I also published a children's book in 2025 called It's Fun with Ricky and Number 7 in memory of my son who was born on 7-7-1977. For almost 40 years I have been a community engager, inspired by growing up with parents who were charter members of the American Legion auxiliary in 1959. I started the Concerned Parents Organization in 1990 after attending a parent webinar and later worked as a parenting specialist at a rehab center for women and children using my community engagement skills.

Ten minutes with Delores

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to seeking out my purpose, the things that I feel God leading me to do that I am good at and comfortable with. Being persistent, open to ideas of others, being a team player, seeking out new ideas and adventure, and doing what you love.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Seek out your purpose. The things that you feel God leading you to do, and that you are good at and comfortable with. Be persistent, open to ideas of others, be a team player, seek out new ideas and adventure, and do what you love.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Research and Google community organizations and events. Surround yourself with people who are doing things that you may want to do or be interested in. Go to community events, even ones you may not be familiar with. Look back on things that you've done before.
