Her Interview
Ten minutes with Denise
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the guidance and encouragement I received from my mother. After losing my father at a young age, my mother instilled in me the importance of education and building a career. She encouraged me to pursue my goals and create a strong foundation for myself, and that motivation has guided me throughout my professional journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received came from a college counselor who encouraged me to consider nursing instead of dental hygiene because there was a strong need for nurses. That advice opened the door to a career where I could make a meaningful impact and provide care and support to others.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering nursing is to make sure you are passionate about the work and not pursuing it solely for the money. Nursing requires compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to care for others. When you are passionate about helping people, it becomes a rewarding and meaningful career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is being micromanaged, especially in home care. Nurses need the ability to use their knowledge, experience, and judgment to make decisions that are best for their patients. Providing nurses with trust, support, and the autonomy to do their work effectively creates better outcomes for both patients and caregivers.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are patience, compassion, and dedication to doing what is right for my patients. I believe in advocating for patients’ rights and always putting their needs and well-being first. My commitment is to provide care with understanding, respect, and genuine concern for every person I serve.
