Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to staying adaptable, working hard, and embracing every opportunity to learn. I began in hospitality, serving as a General Manager at Hampton Inn for six years, and later transitioned into higher education, where I now work as an Assistant Registrar at Fort Valley State University. My days are busy managing student records, grades, schedules, and verifications, which I find both challenging and rewarding. On top of that, I run my own travel agency, DnA Travel, and also teach environmental science—juggling multiple roles has taught me discipline, organization, and the value of continuous growth.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be fair and consistent in everything I do, and to focus on doing good—treating others with respect and integrity has guided my decisions and helped me build trust throughout my career. Always follow policy and procedures..Always

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To young women entering higher education administration at HBCUs, my biggest advice is to honor the legacy—but don’t carry it alone. These institutions are built on excellence and service, but excellence does not require burnout. Learn the policies, master the data, and understand the ‘why’ behind the work—because knowledge protects you and positions you for leadership.

Use your voice, even when it feels uncomfortable, and document your work. Build community with other women instead of competing, and seek mentors who tell you the truth and advocate for you. Most importantly, be student-centered without neglecting yourself. Your well-being matters.

Remember, you are not just staff—you are culture carriers and leaders in the making. Lead with integrity, protect your peace, and know that your skills and your worth extend far beyond any one institution.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As Associate Registrar, your role is both operational and strategic. You’re not just keeping the academic wheels turning — you’re shaping how data, systems, and student services enable institutional goals.

Strategic impact areas might include:

Refining registration and graduation workflows to reduce bottlenecks.

Strengthening compliance and reporting infrastructure.

Championing digital transformation that enhances service while reducing manual work

The registrar’s office sits at the crossroads of students, faculty, and institutional leadership. By embracing technology, elevating data strategy, and fostering cross-department collaboration, you can turn many of these challenges into competitive advantages for FVSU.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are integrity, creativity, service, and balance. I love creating scents, perfumes, and soaps in my free time as a way to relax and express myself, and I’m equally committed to giving back through my involvement with nonprofits that make a positive impact in the community.
