Her Interview
Ten minutes with Denise
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mother. She supported me, encouraged me, and served as the backbone of my success. Her support gave me the foundation and motivation I needed to continue growing throughout my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is that you have to first follow before you can lead. I believe learning from others, understanding how to work within a team, and developing experience are important foundations for becoming an effective leader.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to be patient, keep a level head, and think before speaking. In property management, it is important to have the right mindset when handling conflicts and counseling residents. I also encourage young professionals to learn the rules and bylaws governing property management, research their local market and community, and understand the conditions affecting the properties they manage.
Above all, be kind and learn how to decompress at the end of each day. Property management can be demanding, so maintaining the right mindset and finding healthy ways to manage the pressures of the job are essential.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in property management are maintaining 100% occupancy while balancing the property budget. Successfully managing both requires careful attention to operations, finances, resident needs, and overall property performance.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Consistency is the most important value to me, both in my professional work and in my personal life. I believe that being consistent provides stability, builds trust, and helps me remain dependable in both my responsibilities and relationships.
