Her Story

About Denise

Denise Gomez is the Director of Community Relations at Children’s Health, where she leads strategic community engagement initiatives focused on improving access to pediatric healthcare across North Texas. With more than a decade of experience at Children’s Health, she oversees community outreach efforts related to CHIP and Medicaid, helping connect uninsured and underserved children and families with essential health coverage and healthcare resources. Her work combines strategic thinking, project management, relationship building, and a deep commitment to advancing child health and community well-being.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Denise earned degrees in Public Policy and Markets and Culture, complemented by her studies in Spanish, International Studies, and Economics. Her career began in nonprofit advocacy and community development, including work addressing food insecurity and poverty. As an AmeriCorps VISTA member with the Texas Hunger Initiative, she played a key role in launching the Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions in partnership with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. She later brought this foundation in policy, advocacy, and community organizing to roles at Baylor University, Mary Kay, and ultimately Children’s Health.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Denise is an active community leader and connector who serves through nonprofit advisory boards, professional associations, and leadership programs. She has participated in initiatives including the Communities Foundation of Texas Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy, Leadership North Texas, the McKinsey Hispanic and Latino Management Accelerator, and other civic leadership programs. Her professional interests span healthcare policy, community relations, corporate social responsibility, and health equity, while her personal philosophy centers on service, meaningful relationships, and creating better outcomes for children and families. In 2026, she was recognized among the Top 50 Women Leaders in Dallas, reflecting her continued impact on the North Texas community.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Denise

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a deep commitment to advocacy, service, and continuous growth. Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to support underserved communities, strengthen my leadership skills, and give back through meaningful service. My professional development, community involvement, and commitment to building relationships have shaped my journey, but ultimately, my success is grounded in my belief that serving others is both a responsibility and a privilege.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to step outside their comfort zones and embrace opportunities that may initially feel uncertain. Growth often comes from navigating ambiguity and trusting the journey rather than focusing only on the destination. I also encourage women to build a strong support network of genuine champions who believe in them, whether they are mentors, colleagues, or people outside their organization.
