Her experience includes roles with organizations such as Kao Corporation, L’Oréal, Givaudan, and third-party manufacturing companies, where she supported formulation improvements, document control, pilot batches, GMP compliance, and process improvements.
Denise’s journey in chemistry began with an Associate’s degree in Chemistry around 2007, followed by two bachelor’s degrees from Northern Kentucky University in 2013: a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in English focused on technical and creative writing. Her interdisciplinary education has shaped her ability to approach scientific challenges with analytical thinking, communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning. Throughout her career, Denise has embraced opportunities to expand her expertise, from laboratory management and instrumentation to consulting, training, and developing solutions for complex quality and manufacturing challenges.

She is actively involved in employee resource groups, including EPIC and BLK, where she participates in volunteering and outreach efforts supporting veterans, youth, and STEM engagement. Outside of chemistry, Denise shares her passion for wellness as a dance fitness instructor with Turn Up Dance Fitness, teaching three times a week. Her advice to the next generation is to seek exposure, embrace learning opportunities, and remember that career growth comes from making each experience work for them while remaining open to feedback and new possibilities.

Ten minutes with Denise
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to consistency, a willingness to challenge myself, and staying true to my goals and dreams. I believe in putting in the effort every day while also prioritizing self-care so that I can continue to contribute meaningfully to my work, my community, and the people around me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is, “Don’t just work the job — make sure the job works for you.” I’ve learned to view every opportunity as a chance to grow, gain new skills, receive valuable training, and gain exposure to different areas of an organization. Each experience can help shape your career path and provide insight into what truly motivates you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to embrace the uncertainty that comes with exploring a career path. It’s okay not to have everything figured out right away. Seek out opportunities through internships, mentorship, and job shadowing, and remain open to feedback and new experiences. Every opportunity can help you better understand your strengths and discover what truly aligns with your interests and goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now is the continued growth of artificial intelligence and automation. These technologies have the potential to transform the way we work, but they also require us to develop new skills and adapt to change. There is a growing need to strengthen computational and AI-related capabilities, encourage more people to pursue STEM and vocational careers, and establish clear regulatory frameworks around the use of AI, including areas such as FDA, ISO, and GMP compliance.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me most are integrity, determination, persistence, authenticity, faith, and self-belief. I believe staying true to who you are while remaining committed to growth and resilience is essential for long-term success. I also value self-care because taking care of myself allows me to show up fully for my work, my relationships, and my community.
